Students are encouraged to participate in a school wide writing initiative that will provide a snapshot of how well students can compose according to narrative, expository, and persuasive essay writing prompts, limited time, and without guidance. Each form of writing will be assessed in a 2-month cycle. Students will be assessed according to a 1-4 point scale writing rubric.
Outcome
The desired outcome and vision is for students to use the "Stop, Drop, & Write On Demand" writing prompts to increase their effort of developing effective writing skills, creating persuasive arguments, and communicating effectively. Teachers will be able to use the data to inform instruction and provide feedback that is tailored to each student. Students will eventually become more motivated, confident, and skilled writers and communicators. Additionally, all participating students and staff will receive various rewards according to their participation and scores.
